The Perfect Minneapolis Summer Day
With so many staycation possibilities in Minneapolis, filling longer days with things to do is easy. The real challenge is deciding where to begin!
To help you get started, we’ve created a sample itinerary jam-packed with food and activity pairings, from morning ‘til night. Grab a friend or your partner, and get ready for an active foodie adventure in the city.
Start your day off at Isles Bun & Coffee in Uptown. Order a warm, house-made cinnamon bun, then wash it down with fair-trade organic coffee. If you like a good post-lunch dessert, snag an award-winning chocolate chip cookie to share for later (they’re one-third of a pound before they are baked).
After breakfast, head over to Lake Calhoun for a refreshing morning stroll. Feeling energetic? Rentals are available for biking as well as many water activities, like standup paddle boarding, windsurfing, paddle boating or kayaking.
2. The Greenway & Sea Salt Eatery
If you’re not already on a bike, rent one and pedal over to Minnehaha Park from The Midtown Greenway. Or hop in your car and save your pedal power for a ride in a two- or four-seater custom bike. As you cruise over miles of trails, take in the beauty of the limestone bluffs, Mississippi River, and 53-foot waterfall at Minnehaha Falls.
Hungry? Refuel at Sea Salt Eatery. The seasonal restaurant serves fresh seafood from Coastal Seafoods, fair trade Peace Coffee, a full list of fine wines, and local brews like Surly and Summit. Sea Salt’s menu changes daily, so there’s always something different to try.
Another afternoon option is to book some tee time at Hiawatha Golf Club. Twice-voted Best Golf Course by City Pages, this 18-hole course is full of character, with two fairways, four tees bordering Lake Hiawatha, 12 ponds and 30 strategically-placed sand traps.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite on the green, take a short drive down to Sandcastle restaurant. Situated on the big beach of Lake Nokomis, Sandcastle boasts a diverse local menu with beer and wine lists. Grab a cool snack to nosh on beachside, like an organic Monkey Bar or a classic ice cream sandwich. If you’re craving something more, try the fish tacos and watermelon salad.
4. Darby’s & Target Field
What better way to end a perfect summer day than to jump on the Light Rail and zip over to Target Field for a Twins game. The METRO Blue Line offers weekday specials on round trip tickets to the stadium, valid for up to three hours before game time.
While you’re waiting for the ceremonial first pitch, stop off at Darby’s Pub & Grill for a pre-game pint. Pair your beer with a couple of tasty starters, like Darby’s Signature Bacon Wrapped Tots or Cilantro Pork Tostados.
